Miners Construction was incorporated in 1911 by Charlie M. Miners of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The company enjoys the distinction of being the longest established commercial contracting firm in the province operating with the original company name. Mr. Miners was involved in the construction of many of Saskatoon's early landmark Buildings, Schools and Churches. Miners constructed a great many of the rural schools built during the the farming boom of the 1930's to 1960's.

After Mr. Miners passing in 1963 management transferred to Charlie's son-in-law Mr. Jack Brooks. Jack and his sons Tom and Harold managed the company during the early 60's to late 70's with Howard J. Stensrud by their side. Howard was originally hired in 1950 as a time-keeper by Mr. Miners and both Charlie and Jack recognized Howard's extraordinary abilities. In 1978 Mr. Stensrud purchased the company and remained very active in the day-to-day operations of the company until his passing in December of 2013.

Howard's youngest daughter was born in 1962 with cerebral palsy. Before Howard's involvement the available services for many intellectually disabled children were eventual institutionalism. Howard led a group of parents in the creation of the Sheltered Workshop Model designed to create employment opportunities and social support.

Cosmopolitan Industries in Saskatoon was his creation. His model of support spread worldwide and his contributions were recognized with the award of The Order of Canada in 1992. Howie was a legend in Saskatoon due to his involvement in a great many good causes.

Michael Stensrud joined Miners in 1978 and he a Howie enjoyed 35 years of working together. An amazing and inspirational partnership. During that time and after Howie's passing the company has enjoyed continued growth and success. Mike continues and encourages the Miners and Stensrud family tradition of community service and philanthropy.

At Miners, we believe the quality of workmanship and dedication of our employees is second to none. The company has implemented a complete benefits plan and a highly regarded profit sharing/bonus plan with our long term employees.

All Construction superintendents have and do receive continuing training in WHMIS, construction safety and Saint John’s Ambulance first aid training with the intent of keeping the job sites as safe as possible.
